Porsche is looking to expand its model range with a new combustion and hybrid-powered SUV, likely launching by the end of the decade.
This new model will be ‘clearly differentiated from the Macan, which will be purely electric in the future,’ says Oliver Blume, Porsche and VW Group CEO. Interesting that Porsche is already drawing some sort of yardstick to the Macan, implying that this new model will be around a similar size.
Porsche is going through a ‘comprehensive recalibration,’ according to Jochen Breckner (pictured below, right), member of the board for finance and IT, speaking at the 2025 Porsche Annual Conference.
‘We have looked at our corporate and product strategy, adjusted it, reviewed it and further developed that strategy. A strategy is only as successful as it is flexible,’ adds Blume (above, left) at the 2025 conference. ‘We’re simply seeing that the ramp up of electromobility is not as fast as we expected, and so we looked at our ICE and plug-in hybrid cars.
‘Yes, we have confirmed that the Macan in future will have its ICE versions run out, and then the Macan will only be available electrically,’ Blume adds. ‘The first drawings and the first concepts [for the new combustion SUV] are being developed, and they’re already being quite well received.’
Porsche mentions the use of ‘synergies’ when it comes to developing this new model, likely meaning that the brand will take advantage of Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion platform that is used on the A5, A6 and Q5. That architecture allows for combustion models, mild hybrid models and plug-in hybrid models – as well as cars that can be ran on air suspension and use four-cylinder and V6 engines.
While a firm date hasn’t been set, Blume says the new model will launch before 2030.
