► Range Rover Velar goes electric

We’re going to get another electric SUV. The Range Rover Velar is going BEV, and our spy photographers have snapped it before you’re supposed to see it. Due later in 2026, it’ll use the same electrified modular architecture as the Range Rover Electric, which means it’ll almost certainly use 800-volt technology. Alongside benefits in efficiency that should also mean it’s capable of fast-charging.
What else do we know?
The Range Rover Velar has always been one of JLR’s more stylish, design-led models, and the prototype pictured here appears to double-down on the trend. Even with camouflage disguising most of the details, the proportions are clear: JLR’s designers have gone for a lower, longer more athletic look to the next-gen Velar.
The roofline looks raked and more dynamic, but of particular note is the robust camera and antennae array on the roof – coupled with a relatively fake looking rear window. We’re used to seeing mocked-up and disguised prototypes testing on road and track, but this particular combination of fake window and sensor array points to one thing: a Polestar 4-style setup without a window.
It fits: The Polestar 4 sacrifices its rear-window for a more dynamic stance and JLR has previously worked with the same camera supplier. If true, it’d also give the new Velar and extra point of differentiation over the Range Rover Electric.
